Run-site: NamBee estate, near Rasa
Travel Time: allow 60 – 80 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 1st October, 2023
Hares/Co-Hares: Isaac & Amelia Milliner
Registration: 1:00 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm
We’re back at a great running area, by the river running through the old Nambee Estate.
It’s not such a great driving area, but we can do a shuttle over the last 1-2 kilometres, for anyone who wants to park before the road gets scary.
There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.
A section of the run will be in the river (mostly 30 – 60cm deep), which is great fun and nice & cool, but it should be possible to bypass that if you have a very small child and don’t want to carry them – ask before the run starts.
PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.
EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.
Directions
The parking is near a small Hindu temple, set among the buildings of an abandoned palm oil estate, close to a river.
So we park at the top, and then you can walk forward and then follow the track left down to a river crossing, where we may set up our hotdog stall and do the circle.
As with most run-sites, it’s easy to get there if you let Waze or Google Maps help you navigate.
The last 3.5km of the driving route has some muddy/bumpy bits and also some nice flat bits.
Everyone needs to take care, and low-slung cars may need to take extra care – don’t rush it!
If you click one of these icons, it will direct you all the way to the run-site:
But check the proposed route carefully – we think that Waze is educated now and will no longer suggest that you drive 6km along a very rough track from Batang Kali, which is no longer passable. To prevent that, simply make sure that you go via Rasa Chinese Cemetary, which is here:
If you follow these instructions, you should find it easily, but we’ll have paper signs as you get close.
After you turn off the main road, the quality of the track varies a lot – some of it is very good, but there are a couple of places where you need to take it slowly.
For traditionalists, you could follow the directions below (there are also good alternatives, e.g. past Batu Caves and up the new Rawang bypass, or via the N-S highway to Bukit Beruntung):
From KL Head North on NKVE and Exit 117 for Sungei Buaya / Serendah.
Reset Trip Meter at Toll
- 350m Turn left onto Route 1208
- Go straight (winding road) for just over 2km until you reach traffic lights
- Turn right at the lights, towards Serendah/Rawang
- Drive straight for about 3km, passing the Perodua factory, and keep in the left lane as you approach the old highway 1 at Sungei Choh.
- Approx 7km: turn left at traffic lights onto route 1, towards Serendah / KKB / Ipoh
- 26km (just after bridge and road sign to Rasa on left) Turn Right, following hash signs onto gravel road at cemetery.
Follow Hash signs for a further 3.6km, to the run-site.
If you have a car with low clearance, or you don’t trust your car (or yourself) along a variable-quality road with some tricky bits, please come EARLY, drive as far as you’re comfortable (the Durian Farm is the suggested spot to drive to), and then find a safe place to park and either walk the rest of the way or get a lift with someone’s off-road vehicle.
You can WhatsApp (not always reliable in the wilds) or SMS 012 305 7004 with your name, the locaton where you’re waiting, and the number of people, and we’ll sort something out.
On On!
