Run # 488, 2nd April 2023 @ NamBee Estate

February 28, 2023 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: NamBee estate, near Rasa
Travel Time: allow 60 – 80 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 2nd April, 2023
Hares/Co-Hares: Waring family, Renshaw family
Registration: 1:00 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

There will be an Easter Egg Hunt, so be prepared to follow the Easter bunny and find/win some chocolate!

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

Some members still need to pay their subscriptions for 2023 (January – December).

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Directions

The parking is near a small Hindu temple, set among the buildings of an abandoned palm oil estate, close to a river.
So we park at the top, and then you can walk forward and then follow the track left down to a river crossing, where we may set up our hotdog stall and do the circle.

As with most run-sites, it’s easy to get there if you let Waze or Google Maps help you navigate.

The last 3.5km of the driving route has some muddy/bumpy bits and also some nice flat bits.
Everyone needs to take care, and low-slung cars may need to take extra care – don’t rush it!

If you click one of these icons, it will direct you all the way to the run-site:

But check the proposed route carefully – we think that Waze is educated now and will no longer suggest that you drive 6km along a very rough track from Batang Kali, which is no longer passable. To prevent that, simply make sure that you go via Rasa Chinese Cemetary, which is here:

icon-googlemap

icon-waze

If you follow these instructions, you should find it easily, but we’ll have paper signs as you get close.
After you turn off the main road, the quality of the track varies a lot – some of it is very good, but there are a couple of places where you need to take it slowly.

For traditionalists, you could follow the directions below (there are also good alternatives, e.g. past Batu Caves and up the new Rawang bypass, or via the N-S highway to Bukit Beruntung):

From KL Head North on NKVE and Exit 117 for Sungei Buaya / Serendah.
Reset Trip Meter at Toll

  • 350m Turn left onto Route 1208
  • Go straight (winding road) for just over 2km until you reach traffic lights
  • Turn right at the lights, towards Serendah/Rawang
  • Drive straight for about 3km, passing the Perodua factory, and keep in the left lane as you approach the old highway 1 at Sungei Choh.
  • Approx 7km: turn left at traffic lights onto route 1, towards Serendah / KKB / Ipoh
  • 26km (just after bridge and road sign to Rasa on left) Turn Right, following hash signs onto gravel road at cemetery.

Follow Hash signs for a further 3.6km, to the run-site.

Run # 491, 2nd July 2023 @ Ulu Rening

February 8, 2023 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

This is a special run for the Italian national day.

Run-site: Ulu Rening – cafe at 82 Rening
Travel Time: allow 70 + minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 2nd July, 2023
Hares: Grigolo family (Matteo & Maria)
Co-Hares: TBD (more Italians?)
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

In July we will be running at Ulu Rening – from the ’82 Rening Cafe’, to be precise. That is a bit less wild than some of our run-sites, but still right next to the jungle.

And we’ll be serving pizzas, freshly-baked on site, instead of our usual hotdogs – don’t forget to bring some pocket money to buy a couple of slices or a whole pizza.

To help us estimate numbers and plan how much pizza dough (and sauce and toppings and mozzarella) to bring, please fill in this Google form before Friday 30th June:

Another difference is that there won’t be a river to play in at the end, but there will be a swimming pool!!
Please bring proper swimming attire, and wash before entering the pool.

As well as the pizzas, we will have cold drinks, as usual

So please remember to bring some pocket money, your swimsuit (no sweaty running clothes in the pool, please!) and a change of clothes.

PLEASE remember that all kids (members or guests, pre-registered or not) must sign in BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Then you can have a quick wash, put your swimsuit on, and jump into the pool!

Directions:
Follow Waze or Google Maps to “82 Rening”, which is just before you enter the Ulu Rening kampung, about 7km beyond Batang Kali.

After Batang Kali, you will be on quiet roads through little kampungs, with kids playing on bikes and chickens running around, so please drive carefully and don’t rush, even if you’re late.

The entrance is on the right, a few hundred metres before you reach the mosque at the end of the main road (if you get there, turn round!).
There is some parking for the cafe, but some people might need to park carefully on the road outside.

Run # 490, 11th June 2023 @ Batang Kali estate

February 8, 2023 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Batang Kali estate
Travel Time: allow 60 – 80 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 11th June, 2023 (Second Sunday this time!)
Hares: Lucas and Oscar French
Co-Hares: Iris and Zulaika Renshaw
Registration: 1:30 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

When we ran here in March, it was so popular (scenic trail, nice stream, …) that we agreed to return soon.

So on Sunday 11th June our run-site will be hidden under the swaying palm trees of Batang Kali estate, with fun water features to play in after the run.

Uncle Jerry has been recce-ing a super long 15km run for one of the grown up hashes, but Junior Hashers aren’t that crazy – his kids are going to set a short-ish trail (3km) and a long-ish trail (5km) for us to follow – just be careful to follow the kid hash paper instead of the mother hash paper 🙂

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so please remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Directions:
As with most run-sites, it’s easy to get there if you let Waze or Google Maps help you navigate – just click one of the icons below or follow the directions further down – but remember that it might not take you all the way:

The dirt road starts here, just after you turn off the main road:

icon-waze

The run-site is further in – you might be able to use this Waze link, but if you put the same coordinates into Google Maps it will take you the wrong way, past an orchid farm.

To make sure you don’t get lost, it’s also a good idea to read the directions below:

Detailed Driving Directions
• Get to Ulu Yam Baru any way
The B23 Jalan Hulu Yam Baru-Batu Caves road is a good way from most starting points, but you can also go through Serendah (use the Rawang or Sungei Buaya exit from the N-S highway) and Antara Gapi
• Zero your tripmeter at the bridge over Sungei Liam, just before you enter Ulu Yam Baru town.
• At the t-junction immediately after the bridge, turn LEFT towards town.
• At 0.9km, in the middle of town, turn RIGHT onto the B113 towards Genting Highlands.
• Pass the Balai Polis on your left.
• At about 2.1km the road bends sharply to the left.
TURN RIGHT HERE AT THE SIGN ‘LADANG BATANG KALI’ (small tarmac road)
• Then take the first right, before the small estate manager’s house, into the estate (earth track) and continue about 1.3 kilometres to the run-site – this is the same as March, but about 300 metres past the run-site we used last year.

The track is OK, but some parts are a bit tricky for low-clearance sports cars, so we suggest you leave the Ferrari at home and bring the Perodua instead.

The runsite has plenty of parking near a small stream and a rickety bridge!

Run # 489, 7th May 2023 @ Cherandong Waterfalls

February 8, 2023 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Cherandong Waterfalls, towards Kuala Kubu Baru
Travel Time: allow 70 – 90 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 7th May, 2023
Hares: Katy (Khatijah) and Mary (Maryam)
Co-Hares: TBD
Registration: 1:00 onwards – PLEASE REGISTER IN ADVANCE, using
Run Starts at: 1:30 pm

NOTE: The run start time has changed to 1:30pm, to ensure we’re all back in time for the big meal. If you have made plans that mean you can’t make it by then, no worries – you can go into the trail late.

Also, if you have your own plastic plates/bowls/forks/spoons, please bring them, to help reduce the number of disposable plates/spoons that will be thrown away at the end of the day – go GREEN. If you can bring your own camping tables/chairs, even better, although we have a couple of ‘pondoks’ by the river and there are some big rocks to sit on!

The hares have picked the perfect spot – one we enjoyed a few times last year, with a great river to play in.

They’ve also been checking their recipe books and looking for intrepid caterers who are willing to set up in a camp-site.

Why? Because there will be no hotdogs this month, because we are having a Hari Raya banquet instead.

If you haven’t received an email about it, or seen our post on facebook, then we’ll explain it here:

The Junior Hash will be having a feast with all of the must-have ingredients for a Hari Raya Banquet: rendang, satay, ketupat, nasi impit, grilled lamb, cucuk udang, etc.

Right now (before the end of April) we need to know numbers for catering.

So all Junior Hash families (members or guests) should have filled in this simple online form before the end of April.

The cost for the feast is:

  • RM 25 each for guest (non-member) kids (this includes the normal RM 10 guest fee)
  • RM 25 each for all adults
  • free for member kids who have paid their 2023 subscription fees

For guest kids, it’s almost the same cost as they would usually pay for the guest fees and one hotdog and a soft drink, so it really is a bargain for such a feast.

The form has details of the KL Junior Hash bank account.

If any members haven’t paid their 2023 subs yet, you’d better pay them online or bring them to the run!!!

So, many of us have two things to remember to fill in online before the end of April – this form, and our tax returns!

If you have any problems with the form, please chat with us via our Facebook page, fb.com/kljhhh
If you have any problems with your tax return, feel free to ask some of the kids on the hash – I’m sure they understand it all perfectly 🙂

There will also be cold drinks available for purchase, as usual, so please remember to bring some pocket money.
You’ll also need a change of clothes, as you will get wet!

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk:

  • Members just mark the registration sheet
  • guests who have registered/paid in advance just mark the pre-printed guest sheet
  • unregistered guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Directions:
Use Waze or Google Maps to go to “Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead” – this is on tarmac, and is on Jalan Kampung Buluh Telur, 44000, Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor.

This is on the right (East) side of the river – make sure that Waze doesn’t take you to the closest road on the other side of the river!

Then follow our KLJHHH bunny signs to take the trail on the left, which stays close to the Selangor river for 1 or 2 km further to our run-site, where there is enough parking as long as we are considerate. This trail is a little bumpy in parts, but suitable for normal cars – just take it slowly and carefully, and you’ll have no problem.
The run-site is private, but the hares have handled any payments required so you don’t have to!

More detailed directions:

Tell your navigator to guide you towards Kuala Kubu Baru (or use the link above)
  • At the crossroads on the old Ipoh road by the Rasa Chinese Cemetary, set your tripmeter to zero
  • After almost 1km further (towards KKB), turn RIGHT to Ampang Pecah
  • Continue on Jalan Ampang Pecah for 5.5km
  • When your tripmeter reads about 6.5km, just before a bridge, turn RIGHT
  • You should see the DAM cafe and DAM fishing pond on your right
  • Drive another 2.3km
  • When your tripmeter reads about 8.8km, you’ll see a parking area on your LEFT. Turn in, and then follow the plantation road on the LEFT, which soon runs alongside the river
  • Follow the hash signs to the run-site, at which point your trip-meter should read something close to 10km

On On, and selamat berbuka puasa!

Run # 486, 5th February 2023 @ KKB

January 15, 2023 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Cherandong Waterfalls, near KKB
Travel Time: allow around 75 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 5th February, 2023
Hares: Yaya family, Niu family and Lai family
Registration: 1:30 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

We’ll be celebrating Chinese New Year, so wear red, and those with sensitive hearing can bring earplugs in case there are some fire-crackers 🙂

The Cherandong Waterfall area is a beautiful nature area near KKB, and has waterfalls, white-water streams and a small dam. We will be starting a little beyond the Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead, right next to the top part of the Selangor river.

This run-site is very close to ones we used a couple of times last year, but please pay attention to the directions.

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, and more, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

Also remember that it’s time for MEMBERS to renew their membership (still RM100 for the year), and a good time for new junior hashers to join (RM100 for the year, plus RM10 one-time joining fee).
As usual, it’s RM10 for guests.

Everyone is welcome, and all kids must sign in when they arrive, and sign out when they finish the trail.

Directions

Use Waze or Google Maps to go to “Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead” – this is on tarmac, and is on Jalan Kampung Buluh Telur, 44000, Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor.
