Run # 475, 6th March 2022 @ Templer Park

January 30, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

*** LAST MINUTE CHANGE OF RUN-SITE !!! ***

Run-site: Taman Rimba Templer (in the Templer Park area)
Travel Time: allow 30 – 45 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 6th March, 2022
Hares: Lelia Pezzotta and parents
Co-Hares: more Italians
Registration: 1:20 onwards – please follow SOPs for registration – masks, scanning QR code, etc.
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Just like the original plan for March (Sungei Dua) had to be changed, the second plan (Kem Rimba Tamu) has also had to be changed, due to circumstances beyond our control 🙁

The new site is at Taman Rimba Templer, and many of you will know Templer Park as a recreational forest area close to KL (not far beyond Batu Caves) with streams and waterfalls.

The walk/run will set off at 2:00pm, as usual.

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so please remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

The area around this popular attraction has a few entrances and car parks, but maps show a single location for ‘Taman Rimba Templer’, so that should work fine in Waze or Google Maps.
However, feel free to check back here before you set off, in case our hares have provided additional instructions.

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, in a socially distanced manner, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

MEMBERSHIP: The old membership year started in September 2020, and since then we’ve had 6 or 7 runs, so the committee has decided to switch to a January-to-December membership year, with:
– a top-up of RM50 due for members who joined/renewed in September/October 2020
– the full RM100 membership fee due from anyone who did not renew in/after September 2020

Anyone who renewed last month or joined in January or February this year is up to date.

If in doubt, ask at the reception desk – they have all the details for you!

Guests just pay RM10 per run, as always.
And new members pay RM10 joining fee plus RM100 subscription, as usual.

Directions:
We’re going to ‘Taman Rimba Templer’, and Waze or Google Maps will have no trouble getting you there.

There are a few entrances to the Templer Park area, and this one is the closest to KL (if coming via Batu Caves). You’ll see the entrance on the right, but it’s a divided road so you will need to do a U-turn (maybe underneath an overpass leading to a housing area) to get there.

To find the correct entrance, click on one of these icons:

icon-googlemap

icon-waze

If you see the Templer Park Shell station on your right, you’ve missed the U-turn and need to look for another one.

If you see the Templer Park Shell station on your left, then you’re coming from the LATAR / Rawang direction, and need to take the second left after passing Shell.

After taking the turn-off, stop following your navigation app and look for junior hash signs and/or junior hash cars/people.

On On!

Run # 474, 6th February 2022 @ Kuala Kubu Baru

January 30, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

For our second run of this year, we’ve picked a more traditional junior hash area, further away from town and with a beautiful waterfall – actually, there are a number of waterfalls nearby.

This is our Chinese New Year run, so please wear something (or everything) red, and prepare for some CNY celebrations!

Run-site: Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead, near Kuala Kubu Baru
Travel Time: allow 60 – 75 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 6th February, 2022
Hares: Yaya
Co-Hares: the Lai family
Registration: 1:20 onwards – please follow SOPs for registration – masks, scanning QR code, etc.!
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

The Cherandong Waterfall area is a beautiful nature area near KKB, and has waterfalls, white-water streams and a small dam. We will be starting near the Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead, and you can be certain to see plenty of jungle and plenty of water as you walk or run along the trail.

The geography experts will realise that, because there are waterfalls, there must be hills, but we’ll try not to make the trails too tough, and we usually have a Short Trail for our littlest members as well as a Long Trail for the bigger kids. When you arrive and sign in, you will be able to decide which trail is best for your family.

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, in a socially distanced manner, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

The last membership year started in September 2020, and since then we’ve had 6 or 7 runs, so the committee has decided to switch to a January-to-December membership year, with:
– a top-up of RM50 due for people who joined/renewed in September/October 2020
– the full RM100 membership fee due from anyone who did not renew in/after September 2020

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Directions (updated after the run):
Use Waze or Google Maps to go to “Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead” – this is on tarmac, and is on Jalan Kampung Buluh Telur, 44000, Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor.
Then follow our KLJHHH bunny signs to take the trail on the left, which stays close to the Selangor river for about 2km further to our run-site. This trail is suitable for normal cars.
The run-site is private, but the hares have handled any payments required so you don’t have to!

Run # 473, 2nd January 2022 @ TTDI / Bukit Kiara

December 31, 2021 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

For our first run of 2022, we’ve picked a site that’s very easy to get to, so your parents don’t need to drive for an hour or worry about crocodiles sneaking around flooded forests.

Run-site: the Hash Heritage site, at TTDI / Bukit Kiara
Travel Time: 5 to 30 minutes, depending on where in KL/PJ you’re starting
Date: Sunday 2nd January, 2022
Hares: the French family
Co-Hares: the Renshaw family
Registration: 1:20 onwards – please follow SOPs for registration – masks, scanning QR code, etc.!
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Unless 100 people come, we should all be able to park inside the Hash Heritage site, but you can park outside if you’re worried about getting your wheels muddy. Your shoes will definitely get muddy either way!

There is no stream here to play in, but the woods are great.

It’s very tempting to just roll around in the mud when you get back, but please sign out first!

As always, we will have plenty of drinks for the young and the old, so don’t forget to bring some change.
We are also hoping to have delicious hot-dogs after the run.

Directions:
Use Waze or Google Maps to go to “TTDI the Hash House”.
The entrance is on Changkat Abang Haji Openg, so make sure Waze takes you that way.
Changkat Abang Haji Openg is the up-hill road that joggers/hikers park on when visiting Bukit Kiara, and is crowded during the cool times of day but not at 1:30pm.

Run # 472, 5th December @ Ulu Rening

November 29, 2021 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Traditionally, December would be our Christmas run, but we only restarted last month and some of the rules are still unclear, so this is a ‘normal run’, and we’ll probably have a BIG PARTY at the beginnning of January instead.

We only had a few runs in 2020, but went to Ulu Rening twice, so it must be good! Just like the old run-site at the suspension bridge, this new one is right by a fantastic stream that you can sit in or float down after the run.

Run-site: a new site at Ulu Rening, in the Genting valley and a few km past Batang Kali.
Travel Time: 70 to 80 minutes, depending on starting point
Date: Sunday 5th December, 2021
Hares: Lai (GM) and family
Registration: 1:20 onwards – please follow SOPs for registration – masks, scanning QR code, etc.!
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Our parking area is on private land, so please have RM3 ready to pay for parking.

There are plenty of chalets, home-stays and eco-resorts in the Ulu Rening area if you want to stay overnight (Saturday and/or Sunday). They vary from cheap & simple chalets to posh chalets (e.g. Huda’s Haven) to secluded mansions that sleep 10 and have private swimming pools. Unfortunately the Teratek Tok Alang campsite by our usual run-site is fully-booked this weekend.

It’s very tempting to jump straight into the stream when you get back, and sit there for three hours, but please sign out first!

As always, we will have plenty of drinks for the young and the old, so don’t forget to bring some change.
We are also hoping to have delicious hot-dogs after the run.

Directions:
The run-site coordinates are approximately 3.4903,101.693637

With most run-sites, Waze or Google Maps can navigate all the way there, but this site is not on roads that they know, so if you try to follow the directions all the way then you may end up in the wrong place.

This week, you should only follow the Waze / Maps driving directions as far as the T-junction by the Masjid Ulu Rening (can find it in Waze / Maps), and then turn left and follow KLJHHH signs along little roads to the run-site.

If you click on one of the icons below, or look up “Masjid Ulu Rening” on Waze, that will definitely get you as far as the mosque correctly, and then you’ll need to turn left and watch out for our KLJHHH signs.

icon-googlemap

icon-waze

Traditional directions from Batu Caves:
– Take the B57 Hulu Yam Baharu road.
– Drive past the Hulu Yam dam and reservoir.
– After crossing a bridge, you’ll hit a t-junction – turn left into Hulu Yam town
– In the centre of town, turn right towards Genting Highlands on B113 and set trip meter to zero.
– 4.4 km Traffic lights, Shell station on Left, turn RIGHT onto B114.
– 5.9 km Turn LEFT (signposted Air Panas Hulu Tamu).
– 10.7 km (T-junction in village by mosque) Turn LEFT
– 10.9 km Turn RIGHT
– follow KLJHHH signs

Tradtional directions via Rawang or Serendah (which can be reached in many ways):
– Continue north on Highway 1 ( Old Ipoh Road ) through Serendah to Batang Kali.
– At traffic light in Batang Kali (just after police station on right), turn RIGHT onto B113, and reset your trip-meter.
– 1.9 km At traffic lights (Shell station on right) turn LEFT onto B114.
– 3.4 km Turn LEFT (signposted Air Panas Hulu Tamu).
– 8.2 km (T-junction in village by mosque) Turn LEFT
– 8.4 km Turn RIGHT
– follow KLJHHH signs

Run # 471 – 7th November @ Batang Kali estate

November 3, 2021 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Welcome back, Happy Halloween and Happy Deepavali!

Run-site: Batang Kali estate, between Ulu Yam Baru and Batang Kali
Travel Time: allow 70 to 80 minutes, depending on starting point
Date: Sunday 7th November, 2021
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm
Hares: French family (Lucas, Marcus and Oscar)
Co-Hares: Renshaw family (Iris and Zulaika)

Hot dogs and drinks will be on sale after the run.

Please remember to register BEFORE the run, in a socially distanced manner and masked up (Halloween style if you like), at our registration desk.
Based on the current SOPs, you must also scan our MySejahtera QR code and get your temperature checked, and adults must have had a vaccination.

Members: just mark the registration sheet.
Who’s a Member? Anyone who was a fully paid-up member last year is still a member, up to August 2022 !

Guests: fill in kids’ details (including a phone number and/or car reg) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.
Who’s a Guest? Any kid who isn’t a member 🙂

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we do not send out a search party.

Location
As with most run-sites, it’s easy to get there if you let Waze or Google Maps help you navigate – just click one of the icons below or follow the directions further down:

The dirt road starts here, just after you turn off the main road:

icon-googlemap

icon-waze

The run-site is further in – you can use this Waze link, but if you put the same coordinates into Google Maps it will take you the wrong way, past an orchid farm.

icon-waze

To make sure you don’t get lost, it’s also a good idea to read the directions below:

Directions
• Get to Ulu Yam Baru any way
The B23 Jalan Hulu Yam Bharu-Batu Caves road is a good way from most starting points, but you can also go through Serendah (use the Rawang or Sungei Buaya exit from the N-S highway) and Antara Gapi
• Zero your tripmeter at the bridge over Sungei Liam, just before you enter Ulu Yam Baru town.
• At the t-junction immediately after the bridge, turn LEFT towards town.
• At 0.9km, in the middle of town, turn RIGHT onto the B113 towards Genting Highlands.
• Pass the Balai Polis on your left.
• At about 2.1km the road bends sharply to the left.
TURN RIGHT HERE AT THE SIGN ‘LADANG BATANG KALI’ (small tarmac road)
• Then take the first right into the estate (earth track) and continue about 0.7km to the run-site

Some parts are a bit tricky for low-clearance sports cars, so we suggest you leave the Ferrari at home and bring the Perodua instead.

The runsite has plenty of parking near a small stream – or maybe a big stream after all the rain.

Please watch out for small kids when you drive in and reverse into a parking space!

Note: It’s always a good idea to bring insect repellant, for mozzies, etc.

And it’s always essential to bring a change of clothes, plus a water bottle to keep the kids hydrated on the trail.

On On!
