Run # 506, 6th October 2024 @ Cherandong Waterfalls

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Cherandong Waterfalls, near KKB
Travel Time:
Date: Sunday 6th October, 2024
Hares: Marthe, Wilma and Angelina (Koh family)
Co-Hares: to be confirmed
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

This is one of our favourite swimming spots, but we haven’t been here for over a year – since the Koh family’s run in August 2023, in fact!

It’s at a campsite right next to a fun stretch of river, which can flow quite fast in the middle, so keep an eye on your smaller kids or you might have to go and collect them at Kuala Selangor 🙂

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

After the run, there will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

If you want to come early, and have a picnic lunch or just chill in/by the river, feel free.
Otherwise, just try to arrive by around 1:40, remembering that the run-site is still about 10 minute’s drive beyond where the Waze directions take you.

The run-site is at a private camp-site, right by the river, but our club has paid the site fees, and most of the weekend campers will have packed up by the time we arrive, so we should have it almost to ourselves.

Directions:
Use Waze or Google Maps to go to “Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead” – this is on tarmac, and is on Jalan Kampung Buluh Telur, 44000, Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor.

This is on the right (East) side of the river – make sure that Waze doesn’t take you to the closest road on the other side of the river!

Then follow our KLJHHH bunny signs to take the trail on the left, which stays close to the Selangor river for 1 or 2 km further to our run-site, where there is plenty of parking. This trail is a little bumpy in parts, but suitable for normal cars – just take it slowly and carefully, and you’ll have no problem.

More detailed directions:

Tell your navigator to guide you towards Kuala Kubu Baru (or use the link above)
  • At the crossroads on the old Ipoh road by the Rasa Chinese Cemetary, set your tripmeter to zero
  • After almost 1km further (towards KKB), turn RIGHT to Ampang Pecah
  • Continue on Jalan Ampang Pecah for 5.5km
  • When your tripmeter reads about 6.5km, just before a bridge, turn RIGHT
  • You should see the DAM cafe and DAM fishing pond on your right
  • Drive another 2.3km
  • When your tripmeter reads about 8.8km, you’ll see a parking area on your LEFT. Turn in, and then follow the plantation road on the LEFT, which soon runs alongside the river
  • Follow the hash signs to the run-site, at which point your trip-meter should read something close to 10km

Run # 505, 8th September 2024 @ Ulu Rening

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

We’re doing another Italian pizza feast in Ulu Rening, similar to last July, and we need you to pre-order pizzas in advance, using this form.

Run-site: Ulu Rening – the cafe at 82 Rening
Travel Time: a little over an hour
Date: Sunday 8th September, 2024
Hares: Grigolo family
Co-Hares: probably more Italians
Pizzaioli: probably Robin and others
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

In September our run-site will be a cafe in Ulu Rening – the same place we cooked pizzas in July 2023.

So we’ll be taking over most of the cafe and serving pizzas, freshly-baked on site, instead of our usual hotdogs. We think our pizzas are better than most restaurants, but come along and try them for yourselves!

You don’t need to pre-register to attend the run, but you do need to pre-order if you want food, and who wouldn’t want a delicious pizza after a run? The form for ordering pizzas is here, and we need you to order by Thursday 5th September, so we can make the right amount of dough and prepare the correct quantity of toppings.

Another difference is that there won’t be a river to play in at the end, but there will be a swimming pool!!
Please bring proper swimming attire, and wash the mud/sweat off before entering the pool.

As well as the pizzas, we will have cold drinks, as usual, but no need to pre-order them!

So don’t forget to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

As always, PLEASE remember to sign in BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Directions:
Follow Waze or Google Maps to “82 Rening”, which is just before you enter the Ulu Rening kampung, about 7km beyond Batang Kali.

After Batang Kali, you will be on quiet roads through little kampungs, with kids playing on bikes and chickens running around, so please drive carefully and don’t rush, even if you’re late.

The entrance is on the right, a few hundred metres before you reach the mosque at the end of the main road (if you get there, turn round!).
There is some parking for the cafe, but some people will need to park carefully on the road outside.

Run # 504, 4th August 2024 @ Batang Kali Estate

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Batang Kali Estate (Ladang Batang Kali)
Travel Time: about an hour, or a little more
Date: Sunday 4th August, 2024
Hares: Lucas, Marcus and Kaedan
Co-Hares: random parents
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

We’re back at one of our favourite sites that we haven’t used in over a year!
It has a shady parking area amng the trees, plus a little stream to chill in.

After the run, there will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

And we’re planning a piñata!

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Directions

The dirt road starts here, just after you turn off the main road:

The run-site is further in – you might be able to use this Waze link, but if you put the same coordinates into Google Maps it will take you the wrong way, past an orchid farm.

To make sure you don’t get lost, it’s also a good idea to read the directions below:

Detailed Driving Directions
• Get to Ulu Yam Baru any way
The B23 Jalan Hulu Yam Baru-Batu Caves road is a good way from most starting points, but you can also go through Serendah (use the Rawang or Sungei Buaya exit from the N-S highway) and Antara Gapi
• Zero your tripmeter at the bridge over Sungei Liam, just before you enter Ulu Yam Baru town.
• At the t-junction immediately after the bridge, turn LEFT towards town.
• At 0.9km, in the middle of town, turn RIGHT onto the B113 towards Genting Highlands.
• Pass the Balai Polis on your left.
• At about 2.1km the road bends sharply to the left.
TURN RIGHT HERE AT THE SIGN ‘LADANG BATANG KALI’ (small tarmac road)
• Then take the first right, before the small estate manager’s house, into the estate (earth track) and continue about 1.3 kilometres to the run-site – this is about 300 metres past the run-site we’ve used before.

The track is OK, but some parts are a bit tricky for low-clearance sports cars, so we suggest you leave the Ferrari at home and bring the Perodua instead.

The runsite has plenty of parking near a small stream – or maybe a big stream if the current dry spell is replaced by a wet spell!

Run # 503, 7th July 2024 @ Templer Park

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

(We were hoping to do an Italian pizza run in July, but the venue is booked, so that is now planned for September)

Run-site: Run-site: Taman Rimba Templer (Templer Park) – nice and close!
Travel Time: around 30-40 minutes for most of us
Date: Sunday 7th July, 2024
Hares: Clark family
Co-Hares:
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

This forest park is popular with the public, with its long series of waterfalls to hike around and play in.
We will use the public car park, and will find our own space for hot dogs, circle etc.
Although the trails are limited in this area, meaning that it’s likely to be an ‘out-and-back’ run, it’s a really nice area, and a safe spot to go on your own or take friends who don’t know much about the jungle.

Directions

The area around this popular attraction has a few entrances and car parks, but maps show a single location for ‘Taman Rimba Templer’, so that should work fine in Waze or Google Maps.

If you’re coming from KL, past Batu Caves and up the old highway 1 towards Rawang, the entrance is on the other side of the road, so you’ll have to do a U-turn.
If yor’re coming from the North/West on the LATAR, then you’ll be heading towards Batu Caves / KL, so you won’t have to do a U-turn, but you will need to watch for the correct exit.

To find the correct entrance, click on one of these icons:

icon-googlemap

icon-waze

If you see the Templer Park Shell station on your right, you’ve missed the best U-turn and need to look for another one.

If you see the Templer Park Shell station on your left, then you’re coming from the LATAR / Rawang direction, and need to take the second left after passing Shell.

After taking the turn-off, stop following your navigation app and look for junior hash signs and/or junior hash cars/people.

Run # 502, 9th June 2024 @ Hulu Tamu

Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

The van der Marel family are leaving Malaysia soon 🙁
But they’re setting a run first!
And they expect to come back in a year or two 🙂

They have picked the same site as last November’s Halloween run, which is a little beyond our May run-site. Although it’s still ‘Hulu Tamu’, the trail area is very different from last month, and we will be going to a beautiful waterfall.

The site has been upgraded, to turn it into a campsite, with easier parking and toilets – luxury!

Directions:

Coordinates: 3.456644, 101.710800 (3°27’23.9″N, 101°42’38.9″E)
To reach this run site, you go through Hulu Tamu village, take a turn or two, and continue to the end of the road, where there is some parking along the road or on a flat (and sometimes muddy) bit of land by the river.
