Run # 511, 2nd March @ 2K Hotspring Campsite

December 2, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: 2K Hotspring Campsite, near Ulu Yam / Batang Kali
Travel Time: a little over an hour
Date: Sunday 2nd March, 2025
Hares: Brown family (helped by Paddington Bear?)
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Aenea Brown and her dad love settings runs at the 2K Hotspring Campsite, and we love running there – and we particularly love soaking in the pools afterwards!

It’s a very pleasant campsite, and some junior hashers are camping (with BBQ, etc.) on the Saturday night.
If you have a tent and fancy joining them, please book directly with the friendly Mr Chan – follow the link above for contact details, or just WhatsApp him on +60 19 338 4008.

For those not camping, there is a fee of RM10 per car – please find Mr Chan and pay him (with exact change if possible) after you arrive.
This fee covers parking and use of the facilities for the afternoon – very good value, because KLJHHH is also subsidising it.

Please treat the camp-site nicely – tent pegs are fine, but no digging holes or lighting fires without permission.

The hares tell us that there will be a treasure hunt (woohoo!) in the Green Cabbage Patch, as an early celebration for St Patrick’s Day – feel free to wear green.

Please sign in when you arrive:

  • Members please remember to mark the registration sheet.
  • Guests fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

and PLEASE remember to sign out when you get back from the trail, so we know that nobody is lost. It’s very tempting to jump straight into the stream when you get back, and sit there for three hours, but please sign out first!

As usual, we will have hot-dogs after the run, and drinks for the young and the old, so don’t forget to bring some change.

Directions

These links should take you to the campsite:

Start by taking your preferred route towards Ulu Yam Baru or Batang Kali, which is approximately 35Km (about an hour) from KL or PJ, depending on your start location.

The route has a few turns through the Kampung so please use Waze or Google Maps – just type in ‘2K Hotspring campsite’ to either App, and it will take you directly to the campsite.

The last part is a good quality single track road, so normal clearance cars will have no problems.
There are 2K campsite signs when you’re close.

There is plenty of parking at the campsite but please be mindful of non-hash campers who may also be using the campsite.

Run # 510, 9th February – CNY @ Ulu Rening

December 2, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Happy Chinese New Year!

Note that this run will be on the second Sunday of the month.
From March we will be back to normal – the first Sunday.

We’re back at one of our favourite locations, with a big lawn next to a beautiful river for chilling in, and even toilet/shower blocks to change in – luxury!

Run-site: Dusun Ayah Heritage camp-site at Ulu Rening, in the Genting Valley and a few km past Batang Kali
Travel Time: a little over an hour
Date: Sunday 9th February, 2025
Hares: French family
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

This is our Chinese New Year run, so wear red, bring ear plugs, and look for red packets (kids only!).

Admin / Logistics

This run-site is at a private camp-site, so please have RM5 ready to pay for parking.

You can also rent a tube for playing in the river, for RM10 – please make sure your kids know that you need to pay before borrowing them.

If you would like to camp there (quite cheap), please contact the site directly – you can WhatsApp to Effa on 019 926 6461. You can see more details at fb.com/effaryanstore.

If you want to stay overnight but don’t fancy camping, there are other chalets, home-stays and eco-resorts in the Ulu Rening area . They vary from cheap & simple chalets to posh chalets (e.g. Huda’s Haven), to secluded mansions that sleep 10 and have private swimming pools.

Registration (sign in and sign out)

Members please remember to mark the registration sheet. And if you missed January’s run, please remember to renew your membership – RM120 for the year.

Guests fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

Renewing/new members get freebies!

For renewals, if you prefer to pay by bank transfer before the run (to CIMB account number 8007783962), please show us the payment confirmation or email it to onsec@kljhhh.org.

If you’re interested in joining (which brings multiple benefits), talk to a committee member.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost. It’s very tempting to jump straight into the stream when you get back, and sit there for three hours, but please sign out first!

December 2, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Happy New Year!

Note that our first two runs of 2025 will be on the second Sunday of the month.
From March we will be back to normal – the first Sunday.

Run-site: Sungei Batangsi
Travel Time: about an hour
Date: Sunday 12th January, 2025
Hares: Race family
Registration: 1:20 onwards – registration may take longer than usual because of renewals, so allow plenty of time
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

This is an old run-site that we haven’t been to for a long time – but PH3 ran there in December, next to a very pleasant little river/stream, and reminded us how good it is!

Registration & Membership Renewal

Unlike last month’s Christmas party, there is no need to pre-register for our normal runs – members & guests can just turn up and sign in at our registration desk.

  • Renewing members just mark the registration sheet, and also pay RM120 to renew and check/update details on the Renewal form
  • New members fill in a New Member form and pay RM120 (annual membership) + RM10 (registration) = RM130

If you prefer to pay by bank transfer before the run (to CIMB account number 8007783962), please show us the payment confirmation or email it to onsec.kljhhh@gmail.com (our onsec@kljhhh.org account sometimes blocks emails for no reason).

This site can be reached via Semenyih (for most people) or via Hulu Langat (for people coming from the East side of town), so there are two ways to approach it.

If coming through Semenyih town, from the Kajang direction, turn left onto the B19 Jalan Sungai Lalang, and set your tripmeter to zero.
After 8.1km turn right and cross the bridge.
After 8.3km turn left.
Follow the road along the side of the fishing lake.
After 8.9km turn right.
After 9.4km take a fork right into the runsite.

If coming from the crossroads in Hulu Langat, head South/East on the B116 Jalan Sungei Tekali for about 10.7 km, until you hit a t-junction just before Semenyih reservoir.
Turn right onto the B19 Jalan Sungei Lalang and set your tripmeter to zero.
After 11.1km turn left and cross the bridge.
After 11.3km turn left.
Follow the road along the side of the fishing lake.
After 11.9km turn right.
After 12.4km take a fork right into the runsite.

There’s plenty of space, but please park neatly close to the other hash cars.

Run # 508, 1st December 2024 – Christmas Party

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Can you hear sleigh bells yet? That’s right, it’s nearly Christmas, which means it’s almost time for our Christmas party!
As usual, we have it in early December, before people disappear for holidays or just become too busy – and Santa is much easier to book for the 1st of December than for the 22nd! Actually, one year we had it in January, but we try not to talk about that 😮

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED NOW!

Christmas Run and Party

This is our only run where you must pre-register – if you just turn up on the day (or if a long-lost cousin arrives unannounced), then we will try to be friendly and welcoming (as always), and will still take your fees :-), but it is quite possible that we will not be able to feed you.
It is also our only annual run where all adults attending (apart from Santa) must pay guest fees (for the meal).

Christmas 2024 Party graphic

Member kids still need to register, and all others need to register and pay, in advance, using this form.

For fully-paid-up members (kids), the event is free (apart from drinks!).
Guests (non-members, including lapsed members who have not paid their full 2024 subs by 30th November) are very welcome, as always.

For everyone, the cost includes the run, full Christmas meal and entertainment, and all registered kids get a freebie / goodie bag.

We are currently finalising the menu with the caterer, and will give details soon, but it will certainly be tasty and filling for hungry hashers of all shapes and sizes.

Who Price Early-bird price
Member kids FREE
Guest kids RM50 RM35
All adults RM70 RM50

If you have problems registering, please email us.

Run-site: Hash Heritage site, TTDI / Bukit Kiara
– off Changkat Abang Haji Openg, drive in and park neatly
Travel Time: not very long
Date: Sunday 1st December, 2024
Registration: 11am (much earlier than our normal runs!)
Run Starts at: 12:30 (earlier than usual!)
Hare: Santa
Co-Hares: Elves and Reindeer (helped by Lewie Dekker)

In Waze or Google maps, search for “Senior Golfers’ Society of Malaysia”, and our entrance is immediately after that on the left. Make sure that you are going via Changkat Abang Haji Openg, not Jalan Abang Haji Openg.

You can also use these Waze or Google Maps links.

The ‘Hash Heritage House’ is 99.9% complete now (even more than last year), and already has proper toilets with running water (a luxury for hashers!), electricity for the Christmas tree lights, and a nice roof to keep us shaded and dry!

This is very different from a normal Junior Hash event, but it still includes a normal jungle run, as usual, with mud and hills and trees and maybe also monkeys.

There will be a full Christmas lunch for everyone attending (adults and kids).
Drinks will be available for sale – that’s the only extra you need to bring cash for.

There will be games and entertainment (clown, etc.), and we hope that a special guest will fly in from the North Pole.

The committee and volunteers will try to make it a perfect afternoon for everyone, but it’s up to everyone to decide how to enjoy it – usually the kids run around playing madly while half the parents sit back with a bottle of wine or just snoozing.

Run # 507, 3rd November 2024 @ Nambee Estate

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

This is our Halloween run – expect lots of spookiness and scariness, and please bring your best costume!

Run-site: Nambee Estate, near Rasa
Travel Time: a little over an hour
Date: Sunday 3rd November, 2024
Hares: Gillian and Dylan Waring
Co-hares: Iris and Zu Renshaw
Registration: 1:10 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

They’ve improved the road to Nambee estate, so we’re only going to terrify the kids this Halloween – not the drivers 🙂
As usual, we will park near the little Hindu temple, but will probably set up our registration desk and hotdog stand down by the Rening river.

My kids have spent the last three days watching Malay and Indonesian horror films solidly, so I think we can expect to meet lots of pontianaks in the jungle this Sunday.

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

After the run, there will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

… and if those clothes include a Halloween costume, then you can have fun scaring people, and we will have prizes for the best ones!

Directions

The parking is near a small Hindu temple, set among the buildings of an abandoned palm oil estate, close to a river.
So we park at the top, and then you can walk forward and then follow the track left down to a river crossing, where we may set up our hotdog stall and do the circle.

As with most run-sites, it’s easy to get there if you let Waze or Google Maps help you navigate.

The last 3.5km of the driving route, after passing Rasa Chinese Cemetery, has improved a lot since last October, and is mostly nice and level now, but still has some short sections where you’ll want to slow down.
Don’t rush it, and you’ll be fine, even in a city car, as long as it isn’t a Lamborghini with only 4 inches of ground clearance.

If you click one of these icons, it will direct you all the way to the run-site:
