Run #449, Sunday 7th October 2018

September 8, 2018 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

*** CHANGED RUN-SITE – NOW CONFIRMED ***

Run-site: Eagle’s Nest / Sungei Sendat Waterfalls, near Ulu Yam Baru
Travel Time: 60-70 minutes
Date: Sunday 7th October, 2018
Registration: 1:15 – 1:45 pm
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm
Hare: Sankey family
Co-Hare: Drew family

[ We had to change from our earlier announced site (Sungei Dua) because of problems getting access. ]

Sungei Sendat is a popular site with upgraded parking (at least it was being upgraded last time we were there!). There is a nice stream to play in, but please keep an eye on your kids, as always. A couple of hundred metres up-stream, you have the actual waterfall, with a small charge for entry, but we won’t be running there (feel free to go in by yourselves, before or after) and be careful not to fall in.

As usual, we will have hot dogs (made from premium halal Victoria Crest sausages) and cold drinks on sale.

Also as usual, all are welcome, including non-members (‘guests’), who can just turn up and go to our registration desk, to sign in and pay the guest fee of RM10 per kid.

See you there!

Subscriptions

For members who didn’t make it to September’s run, please remember to bring RM100 per member for your annual subs! Anyone who joins or renews will get a stylish junior hash t-shirt.

Directions

GPS apps make it easy to get there:

Google Maps

WAZE: Hutan Lipur Sungei Sendat

About 150m before the waterfall entrance (end of the tarmac road), the road turns right, but we stop there (or go slightly left) and park in the newly cleared area there.

In case of any small changes on the day, look for the usual yellow bunny hash signs to guide you to the correct location.

Or, if you’re worried about Google spying on you, turn your phone off and follow these easy instructions:

Scenic Route: VIA BATU CAVES (Fastest from many areas)

Get either onto Jalan Kuching North from KL, and take the 3 o’clock exit Batu at the Batu Caves/Kepong Roundabout, OR, Get onto the MRR2 from Sungai Buloh, etc. and head towards Batu Caves. Trip meter at Roundabout.
km 0.5 Exit left on the first exit after leaving the roundabout
km 1.2 turn left again, and get into right hand lane.
km 1.9 Turn right at the traffic lights with the Mosque on your right and head through Selayang town
km 6.0 Go past the Petronas on the left and then
km 6.5 Turn right onto old reservoir road (B57), following signs to Ulu Yam.
Proceed about 21km until you cross a small bridge and come to a T-junction.
After crossing the bridge, turn RIGHT at T-junction, and then keep right at the fork.
Proceed slowly, watching for pedestrians/bikes/cars, for approx. 4.5 km.
Park when you see hash-mobiles ahead of you, where the road turns right up to the waterfall.

Alternative Route: VIA NORTH-SOUTH HIGHWAY

Get onto the N-S highway, via either:
the NKVE, from PJ/Damansara
or
Jalan Duta, from KL or Mont Kiara
Head North and take exit 117, for Sungei Buaya (this is the new-ish exit between Rawang R&R and Bukit Beruntung)
After the toll, turn left at the traffic lights
Go straight (winding road) for just over 2km until you reach traffic lights
Turn right at the lights, towards Serendah/Rawang
Drive straight for about 3km, passing the Perodua factory, until you hit the old highway 1 at Sungei Choh
Keep in the far left lane (there is usually a queue to turn right) and turn left towards Serendah / KKB / Ipoh
Drive for about 10km until you see a traffic-light junction with colourful new (mostly empty) shop-lots on your left
Get into the right-hand lane, and turn right at the lights, into Antara Gapi
Drive all the way along Persiaran Antara Gapi (5km)
At the t-junction with the Ulu-Yam – Batu Caves road, turn left
Proceed a few km until you cross a bridge and come to a T-junction
After crossing the bridge, turn RIGHT at T-junction, and then keep right at the fork.
Proceed slowly, watching for pedestrians/bikes/cars, for approx. 4.5 km.

Run #448 (AGM), 9th September 2018, off Batang Kali – Genting road

August 15, 2018 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: off the road from Batang Kali to Genting, near the little red Chinese Temple
Travel Time: 75 minutes
Date: Sunday 9th September, 2018 (that’s the 2nd Sunday for a change!)
Registration: 1:00 – 1:45 pm (may take longer than usual, so please come early!)
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm
Hare: Pritchard family
Co-Hare: Oakley family

This is our AGM run, at which we appoint a committee for the next year (anyone willing/able to help?).

It’s also the start of a new membership year, so all members need to renew – please remember to bring RM100 subs (cash) for each member.

It’s also a good time for new members to join (RM100 + RM10 one-time joining fee).

All members (existing or new) will receive a freebie when paying their annual subscriptions. If you can’t make it to September’s run, don’t worry – October or November is fine …

Occasional or first-time hashers can simply pay the RM10 guest fee, as always – no need to join unless/until you want to.

Cold drinks and hot dogs (halal – made from premium Victoria Crest sausages) will be available.

It is recommended to bring mosquito spray and apply tiger balm to legs and ankles to deter pacat.

The river here is amazing for swimming (clear water and boulders – keep an eye on your kids!) so bring towels and a change of clothes.

Directions:

Google Maps here

WAZE: Open in Waze

One route is via Ulu Yam Baru town:

Get yourselves to Ulu Yam any way you can (e.g. up the Batu Dam road from the Batu Caves area).

In the centre of Ulu Yam turn right just after the 7-11, and drive about 2km until you reach the traffic lights.

Turn right towards Genting.

Drive 5.0 kilometres (going past the small tarmac road on the left) until you see a small track going off to the left, marked with a KLJHHH bunny sign.

If you see a Chinese shrine on the left you have gone too far.

Follow the track, watching for KLJHHH ‘bunny’ signs at forks.

This track is fine for normal cars – just a little uneven in places, so take it slowly.

On on!

P.S. Did we remind you to bring your subs? Plus pocket-money for drinks and hot dogs…

Run #447: Sunday 5th August 2018 @ Ulu Yam Science School

July 30, 2018 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Venue: the waterfall behind Hulu Selangor Science School, Ulu Yam

Travel Time: 60-70 minutes

Date: Sunday 5th August, 2018

Run Starts at: 2pm – aim to be there for 1:30 (or come even earlier for a picnic lunch)

Hare: Iris Renshaw

Co-Hares: Oscar, Marcus and Lucas French

Old-timers may remember that we last ran here exactly 2 years ago.

The science school is at the junction of Persiaran Antara Gapi and the main Ulu Yam – Batu Caves road, just a couple of km from Ulu Yam Baru town. We take the side road that turns off about 100 metres along Persiaran Antara Gapi, to go behind the school and almost to the new ‘Flamboyant Resort’.

There is a small waterfall with pools above and below it – perfect for splashing around to cool off after the run (short – 2km or long – 4km).

As usual, we will have cold drinks and hot dogs (made with Victoria Crest sausages), so bring a little pocket-money.

Directions:

The run-site is at 3.406167,101.659

Find it on Google Maps

or open the location in Waze (from your mobile device)

There are at least 3 good ways to get there, depending on traffic and your starting point:

  • one way is to go up the Batu Dam road behind Batu Caves
  • another is up the old Ipoh Road, and then on the shiny new bypass around Rawang to Serendah
  • a third way is described in detail below:

Via the N-S highway

– Go North (towards Ipoh), and take exit 117, for Sungei Buaya (this is the relatively new exit between Rawang R&R and Bukit Beruntung)

– After the toll, turn left at the traffic lights

– Go straight (winding road) for just over 2km until you reach traffic lights

– Turn right at the lights, towards Serendah/Rawang

– Drive straight for about 3km, passing the Perodua factory, until you hit the old highway 1 at Sungei Choh

– At this junction, keep in the far left lane (there is usually a queue to turn right) and turn left towards Serendah / KKB / Ipoh

– Drive for about 10km until you see a traffic-light junction with colourful new (mostly empty) shop-lots on your left

– Get into the right-hand lane, and turn right at the lights, into Antara Gapi

– Drive along Persiaran Antara Gapi for 5km, until the science school is on your right – this is only about 100 metres before the Ulu-Yam – Batu Caves road, so if you reach that road then you’ve gone a tiny bit too far

– turn sharp right (180 degrees) onto a small road that leads behind the school

– follow this track (and hash signs) until you reach the run-site, by a small bridge across a stream

Follow directions to park considerately.

On On!
