Run # 480, 7th August 2022 @ Lata Gapi Waterfall

July 4, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Lata Gapi Waterfall, close to Antara Gapi (just beyond Serendah)
Travel Time: 40-60 minutes
Date: Sunday 7th August, 2022
Hares: Muyang Niu (new hare!)
Assisted by: Lucas, Marcus and Oscar
Registration: 1:30 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

This month’s run is at the Lata Gapi waterfall, close to the Antara Gapi housing estates, just beyond Serendah town, and easily accessible from any part of KL in well under an hour.

This is a popular destination for families, and all kids love to play in the waterfall. As always, please take care when hopping around the wet rocks, especially with the littlest hashers.

The run-site is at the ‘trailhead’, with plenty of parking, and then it’s around 2.5km to the waterfall – mostly on a very easy trail, but getting a little technical at the end as we walk up the stream. Then it’s a similar distance back along the same trail.
So it’s a bit longer than our normal ‘short trail’ – obviously you could turn back early to do a short run, but the waterfall is definitely worth a longer run/walk.

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, but they won’t be at the parking area – they’ll be a few hundred metres further in, close to a stream, to enable kids to play in the water after the main part of the run.
So it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money on the run with you, plus spare clothes so you can change back at the car.

Don’t forget that the hot-dogs and drinks will be a few hundred metres along the trail, near the stream, instead of at the parking. So you will want to take some cash with you on the trail, or you will only be able to gaze longingly at the hot dogs and cold drinks!
We will remind you about this at registration 🙂

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk (no need to message us in advance!). Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid (aged up to 18). There is no cost for adults, or for babies who are too young to even toddle around the trail.

EVERYONE (members and guests) who signs in must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost. Sign-in will happen at the parking area, but sign-out will happen at the drinks stop on the way back.

Directions

GPS coordinates for where we turn off the main Antara Gapi road are 3.422536, 101.646651

You can get there from two directions:
– if you go up the B23 Batu Dam road, via the Batu Caves area, then you will turn left at the Hulu Selangor Science School, which has a new housing development on the corner, towards Antara Gapi. Then continue 2.4km, passing lakes on both sides of the road, and turn left onto a track.
– if you go via Rawang or Sungei Buaya or the scenic Rawang bypass, you’ll be heading North on old highway 1, and then you turn right to Antara Gapi (traffic light junction with some colourful shops on the left, including Mr DIY). Drive about 2.6km up the Antara Gapi road, and just past a turning to some empty new houses on the right you’ll see a right turn onto a track.

KLJHHH signs should be visible from both directions, to ensure that you find the correct turning.

From that point, drive straight along the track for about 600 metres, and then turn left and go another 100 metres to find our registration desk.

You can follow one of these links on your phone, to find the point where we turn off the Antara Gapi road, and then you should watch out for KLJHHH signs:

The track is suitable for all cars and there should be plenty of space to park.

Run # 479, 3rd July 2022 @ KKB

June 23, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Cherandong Waterfalls, near KKB
Travel Time: allow around 75 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 3rd July, 2022
Hares: Marthe & Wilma (new hares!)
Co-Hares: Lucas, Marcus and Oscar
Registration: 1:30 onwards, but you can come earlier to have a picnic and play in the river
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

When we find a really good run-site, we like to use it, as we don’t know if it might be bull-dozed or developed one day!
So our July run is back at the same great site we used in April (did you hunt Easter Eggs with us?) and also in February (CNY).

The Cherandong Waterfall area is a beautiful nature area near KKB, and has waterfalls, white-water streams and a small dam. We will be starting a little beyond the Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead, right next to the upper reaches of the Selangor river.

There will be two trails – 5 or 6km for the bigger or more intrepid kids, and around 2.5 or 3km for the smaller ones.

There are rocks and waterfalls and placid pools by the run-site, so something for everyone to relax after the run, as long as you like it wet!

We are not celebrating Songkran this time, but feel free to bring your water guns again 🙂

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

Directions

Start by using Waze or Google Maps to go to “Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead” – that point is on tarmac, and is on Jalan Kampung Buluh Telur, 44000, Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor.

This is on the right (East) side of the river – make sure that Waze doesn’t take you to the closest road on the other side of the river (Taman Milenium/Mellinium)!

The runsite is about 1km along the river, so look out for the hare’s home-made KLJHHH hash signs.

Follow the KLJHHH signs to turn left onto a track.
It stays close to the Selangor river for around 1 km further to our run-site, where there is plenty of parking. This trail is suitable for normal cars, but the top speed is 20 – 30 km/h, so don’t rush this part even if you’re late.

The parking is at a private picnic/camping area, but the hares have handled any payments required so you don’t have to – just drive up and you’ll be welcome!

These locations are approximate – you’ll need to look for hash signs and turn left off the tarmac road onto a riverside track:

Run # 481, 4th September 2022 @ Hulu Tamu, Batang Kali

June 12, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: A Riverside Cabin, Hulu Tamu (just before Dusun Bonda)
Travel Time: allow 70 – 80 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 4th September, 2022
Hares: Sam Botak (Katy & Mary)
Co-Hares: Lai’s family
Registration: 1:30 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

This month’s run is at Hulu Tamu, near Batang Kali, Selangor. The area is a popular weekend gateway and has plenty of eco resorts. Enthusiasts come to enjoy camping, hiking, rivers, waterfall, fruit orchards and much more.

The run will start and finish at ‘the cabin’, right by the river, with plenty of parking. This is about 400 metres past Kem Rimba Tamu (where we’ve run a couple of times) and the Hulu Tamu hot springs, and about 200 metres before Dusun Bonda.

Some people will camp here on Saturday night – if you want to participate, just turn up on Saturday afternoon, bringing your tent and supplies! On the Sunday morning, you can walk to the hot springs or just play at the site.

Depending on our little hashers’ liking there will be two scenic & easy loops to choose from, one at 4.2 km and the other at 2.2 km. The run will bring you into the ‘orang asli’ village, river crossing (on the longer run), some open trails, deer farm (Bambi?) and fruit orchards (no picking!).

The walk/run will set off at 2:00pm, and you can follow paper for a short or long trail, which will bring you back to the starting point in about an hour.

After the run, little hashers and their parents can have a picnic and enjoy the river behind the cabin.

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so please remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Guests just pay RM10 per run, as always.

In previous years, September was our AGM run and the start of our membership year, but our year now runs from January to December, so September is a normal run.

Or you can ask your favourite navigation app to take you to “Dusun Bonda”, and look for the cabin (on the left) about 200 metres before you get there.

Run # 478, 12th June 2022 @ Commonwealth Park

May 9, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Commonwealth Forest Park (Taman Eko Rimba Komanwel)
Travel Time: 20 – 40 minutes
Date: Sunday 12th June, 2022
Hares: Grigolo and Pezzotta families
Registration: 1:30 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Just like May, our June run will be on the second Sunday, as many people are likely to go away for the long weekend at the beginning of June.

We are running at the Commonwealth Forest Park, an eco-reserve not far beyond Batu Caves and Templer Park.
The hares haven’t told me what to expect on the run, but I know this park has plenty of natural forest and waterfalls, so it’s going to be a good one!

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so please remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

As with most of our runs, all kids/families are welcome, and you can just turn up – there is no need to pre-register, and we don’t always check our messages, but it’s a very good idea to check fb.com/kljhhh on the day of the run, in case there are any last-minute updates.

But PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees.

Guest kids just pay RM10 per run, as always.
If you’ve run a couple of times and want to become a member, ask one of the friendly people at the registration desk.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Directions:
This site is on the West (left) side of the road (Jalan Rawang, old highway 1) from Batu Caves to Rawang, just before the junction for the new-ish Rawang bypass (the big viaduct that goes to Serendah).

You can reach Jalan Rawang via Jalan Kuching from KL, or via the MRR2 (turn off at the big junction near Batu Caves).
You can even reach it via the LATAR highway (E25) if you live in the North-West part of the Klang Valley, but then you’ll need to do a u-turn.

If you ask Waze or Google Maps to take you to “Commonwealth Forest Park Falls”, and try not to miss the turning, then you’ll definitely find us.

This is a popular picnic/hiking spot, so please park neatly/considerately as always.

Run # 477, 8th May 2022 @ Hash Heritage site

March 24, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Hash Heritage site, TTDI / Bukit Kiara
Travel Time: not long!
Date: Sunday 8th May, 2022
Hares: Amber Freer
Co-Hares:
Registration: 1:30 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Selamat Hari Raya !!!

In May, we are running on the second Sunday, after the public holidays and Hari Raya Aidilfitri. It’s a normal run, but if you’re still celebrating Hari Raya then we wouldn’t say no to some cookies or even duit raya 😉

We are staying in town, as traffic could be terrible on the highways, but it’s still proper jungle – the only thing missing is a stream to swim in. The run-site is the ‘Hash Heritage’ site, where we had our Christmas party in 2019, and also a run last year.

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Directions:
Use Waze or Google Maps to go to “Changkat Abang Haji Openg” in TTDI, and look for our KLJHHH bunny signs.
You can also direct Waze or Google Maps to “TTDI the hash house”, which is the exact location, but that’s halfway between two roads and you need to make sure you approach it via Changkat Abang Haji Openg.
The coordinates of the entrance to the site are 3.14315, 101.633480

You can drive in if the gate is open, or you can park on the tarmac road and walk in, if you don’t want to get your tyres muddy.

These links should take you to the entrance to the site:

Please park neatly/considerately.
