Run # 486, 5th February 2023 @ KKB

January 15, 2023 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Cherandong Waterfalls, near KKB
Travel Time: allow around 75 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 5th February, 2023
Hares: Yaya family, Niu family and Lai family
Registration: 1:30 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

We’ll be celebrating Chinese New Year, so wear red, and those with sensitive hearing can bring earplugs in case there are some fire-crackers 🙂

The Cherandong Waterfall area is a beautiful nature area near KKB, and has waterfalls, white-water streams and a small dam. We will be starting a little beyond the Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead, right next to the top part of the Selangor river.

This run-site is very close to ones we used a couple of times last year, but please pay attention to the directions.

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, and more, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

Also remember that it’s time for MEMBERS to renew their membership (still RM100 for the year), and a good time for new junior hashers to join (RM100 for the year, plus RM10 one-time joining fee).
As usual, it’s RM10 for guests.

Everyone is welcome, and all kids must sign in when they arrive, and sign out when they finish the trail.

Directions

Use Waze or Google Maps to go to “Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead” – this is on tarmac, and is on Jalan Kampung Buluh Telur, 44000, Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor.

This is on the right (East) side of the river – make sure that Waze doesn’t take you to the closest road on the other side of the river!

Then follow our KLJHHH bunny signs to take the trail on the left, which stays close to the Selangor river for 1 or 2 km further to our run-site, where there is enough parking as long as we are considerate. This trail is a little bumpy in parts, but suitable for normal cars.
The run-site is private, but the hares have handled any payments required so you don’t have to!

More detailed directions:

Tell your navigator to guide you towards Kuala Kubu Baru (or use the link above)
  • At the crossroads on the old Ipoh road by the Rasa Chinese Cemetary, set your tripmeter to zero
  • After almost 1km further (towards KKB), turn RIGHT to Ampang Pecah
  • Continue on Jalan Ampang Pecah for 5.5km
  • When your tripmeter reads about 6.5km, just before a bridge, turn RIGHT
  • You should see the DAM cafe and DAM fishing pond on your right
  • Drive another 2.3km
  • When your tripmeter reads about 8.8km, you’ll see a parking area on your LEFT. Turn in, and then follow the plantation road on the LEFT, which soon runs alongside the river
  • Follow the hash signs to the run-site, at which point your trip-meter should read something close to 10km

On On, and Gong Xi Fa Cai to all the bunnies out there!

Run #485, 8th January 2023 – New Year / Christmas / CNY Party

November 28, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Christmas Run and Party

Message for those who have registered:

Please aim to arrive between 11:45 and 12:30 – the run starts at 1:00 sharp

Food will be served afterwards, and Santa will be there, so PLEASE bring a gift (wrapped) for your kids, or an ang pau (small amount of cash) if you’re all gifted out after Christmas!

Food is included, but you will want to bring some cash for drinks.

This is our only run where you must pre-register – if you just turn up on the day (or if a long-lost cousin arrives unannounced), then we will try to be friendly and welcoming (as always), but it is quite possible that we will not be able to feed you.

New Year 2023 Party graphic

Included:
– hash run/walk in the forest
– gift (for kids over 2)
– games, competitions and prizes
– three-course meal and snacks, with hot pizzas of your choice (from a professional pizza oven on-site) as the main course
– fun

Available at a reasonable cost:
– a variety of softies and drinks

For junior hashers who were paid-up members up to December 2022, and for babes/toddlers up to 24 months, the event is free (apart from drinks!), but guest kids and all adults (parents / grandparents / uncles / aunts / random friends) need to contribute a small amount to the costs.

All are welcome.

The cost is:

  • RM25 per person if you pay and register before the end of 2022 2nd Jan 2023
    (we’ve extended the deadline)
  • RM35 from Sunday 1st Tuesday 3rd to Friday 6th January

So register now!

How to register?

  1. Decide who is coming from your family/group
  2. Work out the cost – see above – you can use a calculator if you want 🙂
  3. Transfer the money to our bank account, and save the receipt/confirmation
    • Bank: CIMB
    • Account name: KL Junior Hash House Harriers Society
    • Account number: 8007783962
    • Reference: your family/group name (so we can cross-reference payments with registrations)
  4. Open the registration form
  5. Fill in the details accurately – all attendee names must be included
  6. Submit the form (no registrations will be accepted without confirmed payment!)
  7. Mark your calendar, set a reminder, and then relax and wait for 8th December

If you’re worried about your registration, you can also email the details and bank transfer receipt to onsec@kljhhh.org

Run-site: Hash Heritage site, TTDI / Bukit Kiara
– park up Changkat Abang Haji Openg and follow signs
Travel Time: not very long
Date: Sunday 8th January, 2023
Registration: from 11:30am to 12:30pm (much earlier than our normal runs!)
Run Starts at: 1:00 (earlier than usual!)
Hare: Sam-ta Claus/Clarke
Co-Hares: Olaf and Sven

In Waze or Google maps, search for “TTDI the Hash House” – it should take you to the entrance to the site, on Changkat Abang Haji Openg. There may be space for a few cars inside, but there is plenty of parking on the road outside the site.

This is very different from a normal Junior Hash event, but it still includes a normal jungle run (with short and long trails), as usual.

Remember:

  • There will be a full lunch for everyone attending (adults and kids).
  • Drinks will be available for sale – that’s the only extra you need to bring cash for.
  • If you bring a present for your kids, Santa will be there to hand it to them>

The committee and volunteers will try to make it a perfect time for everyone, but it’s up to everyone to decide how to enjoy it – usually the kids run around playing madly while half the parents sit back with a bottle of wine.

Run # 484 – 4th December @ Batang Kali estate

November 28, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

If you’ve been in any shopping malls lately, you’ll think it’s Christmas Eve already,
but in fact Christmas is still 3 weeks away.

We ARE going to have a Christmas run/party, but this time it will be on the 8th of January, which is actually closer to Christmas than our usual Christmas party.

So our run on 4th December is technically a ‘normal’ run, but I know that I’ll be wearing a Santa hat and my kids will be dressed in red and wearing antler headbands, so you can either laugh at us or join in.

Run-site: Batang Kali estate, between Ulu Yam Baru and Batang Kali
Travel Time: allow 70 to 80 minutes, depending on starting point
Date: Sunday 4th December, 2022
Registration: 1:20 onwards, but please come an hour earlier with a picnic!
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm
Hares: the Lai family
Co-Hares: Not sure

We encourage people to come early with a picnic lunch – that can be as simple (sandwiches or take-away nasi lemak) or as complex (full bbq with tablecloths, wine and desserts) as you like.

Hot dogs and drinks will be on sale after the run, as always.

Please remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk.

Guests: fill in kids’ details (including a phone number and/or car reg) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.
Who’s a Guest? Any kid who isn’t a member 🙂

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we do not send out a search party.

Location
As with most run-sites, it’s easy to get there if you let Waze or Google Maps help you navigate – just click one of the icons below or follow the directions further down – but remember that it might not take you all the way:

The dirt road starts here, just after you turn off the main road:

The run-site is further in – you can use this Waze link, but if you put the same coordinates into Google Maps it will take you the wrong way, past an orchid farm.

To make sure you don’t get lost, it’s also a good idea to read the directions below:

Directions
• Get to Ulu Yam Baru any way
The B23 Jalan Hulu Yam Bharu-Batu Caves road is a good way from most starting points, but you can also go through Serendah (use the Rawang or Sungei Buaya exit from the N-S highway) and Antara Gapi
• Zero your tripmeter at the bridge over Sungei Liam, just before you enter Ulu Yam Baru town.
• At the t-junction immediately after the bridge, turn LEFT towards town.
• At 0.9km, in the middle of town, turn RIGHT onto the B113 towards Genting Highlands.
• Pass the Balai Polis on your left.
• At about 2.1km the road bends sharply to the left.
TURN RIGHT HERE AT THE SIGN ‘LADANG BATANG KALI’ (small tarmac road)
• Then take the first right into the estate (earth track) and continue nearly a kilometre to the run-site

Some parts are a bit tricky for low-clearance sports cars, so we suggest you leave the Ferrari at home and bring the Perodua instead.

The runsite has plenty of parking near a small stream – or maybe a big stream after all the rain.

Please watch out for small kids when you drive in and reverse into a parking space!

Note: It’s always a good idea to bring insect repellant, for mozzies, etc.

And it’s always essential to bring a change of clothes, plus a water bottle to keep the kids hydrated on the trail.

On On!

Run # 483, 13th November 2022 @ Bukit Lagong

November 6, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Bukit Lagong
Travel Time: not very long 🙂
Date: Sunday 13th November, 2022
Hares: Lucas Tan, plus his Dad and Grandad (old-time hasher)
Co-Hares: Lucas, Marcus and Oscar French
Registration: 1:30 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Some of you will remember that we were at the same run-site just 6 weeks earlier!
But that was before Halloween, and everything is different now – at October’s run, we only had a couple of leeches to worry about, but now we have ghosts and ghouls and witches and vampires and zombies. But it will still be fun, at least for the survivors!

We have a brand-new hare for this month, and Lucas has invited his Grandad to help set his run – Tommy has been setting runs at Bukit Lagong for decades, so it should be a good one!

The walk/run will set off at 2:00pm, and the hares have planned two trails, of different lengths.

If you want to bring a halloween costume, that would be great, and if your kids bring halloween costumes that would be even better 😉
I hear that some committee members are planning a costume competition with prizes, and there should be a Halloween pinata, so plenty of spooky fun this month.

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so please remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes (or at least some cobwebs and a witch’s hat).

PLEASE remember to register when you arrive at the run-site (BEFORE setting off on the trail), at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Guests just pay RM10 per run, as always.

Directions:
Direct Waze or Google maps to ‘Bukit Lagong Parking Spot’.
There’s a grassy area, which can be boggy in wet weather, and a paved parking area, which can be busy in dry weather, so the weather will probably determine where we park!

Run # 482, 2nd October 2022 @ Bukit Lagong

September 8, 2022 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Bukit Lagong
Travel Time: not very long 🙂
Date: Sunday 2nd October, 2022
Hares: Iris & Zulaika
Co-Hares: Lucas, Marcus and Oscar
Registration: 1:30 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

To plan October’s run we spent a few hours travelling round a few spots we haven’t run at for a while, looking for a pleasant run-site next to a river. We decided on Bukit Lagong, in Kepong, which we last used in 2017, and has the added benefit of being a much shorter drive than our usual areas.

The walk/run will set off at 2:00pm, and we have planned two trails, or maybe even three, of different lengths.
They start by going up a hill, so remember to do your stretching and warm-up at the run-site.

There will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so please remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.
