Run # 502, 9th June 2024 @ Hulu Tamu

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Hulu Tamu – the end of the road, near Hulu Tamu Waterfall
Travel Time: 70-80 minutes
Date: Sunday 9th June, 2024
Hares: van der Marel family – Guus and Abel’s farewell run
Co-Hares: Isaac and Mimi
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

The van der Marel family are leaving Malaysia soon 🙁
But they’re setting a run first!
And they expect to come back in a year or two 🙂

They have picked the same site as last November’s Halloween run, which is a little beyond our May run-site. Although it’s still ‘Hulu Tamu’, the trail area is very different from last month, and we will be going to a beautiful waterfall.

The site has been upgraded, to turn it into a campsite, with easier parking and toilets – luxury!

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

After the run, there will be hotdogs and cold drinks, as usual, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

Directions:

Coordinates: 3.456644, 101.710800 (3°27’23.9″N, 101°42’38.9″E)
To reach this run site, you go through Hulu Tamu village, take a turn or two, and continue to the end of the road, where there is some parking along the road or on a flat (and sometimes muddy) bit of land by the river.

Turn left at the T Junction at the end of this road (after you go over a bridge jest before you enter Hulu Yam).

In the centre of Hulu Yam town take the RIGHT turn onto B113
signposted to Genting Highlands and reset your trip-meter.

4.4 km at Traffic light, Shell station on Left, turn RIGHT onto B114.

Run # 501, 5th May 2024 @ Hulu Tamu

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

This will be a camping weekend with a post-Hari Raya celebration run & feast!

Run-site: Sekangkang Kera Hulu Tamu
Travel Time: a little over an hour
Camping: Saturday 4th May, 2024
Running: Sunday 5th May, 2024
Hares: Katy and Mary, and uncle Sam Botak
Co-Hares: Louise and the Race family
Registration: 1:20 onwards on Sunday, but come on Saturday and camp!
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm on Sunday

Our run-site for May is a camp-site next to the stream in Hulu Tamu, just beyond Batang Kali – it is near the Hulu Tamu Hot Springs and close to a couple of places we’ve run from previously.
All junior hash families are welcome to come and camp, at no extra charge – the hare has kindly booked the entire site (which has toilet/shower and limited electricity), but please let us know as space is limited!
Someone has posted a YouTube video of the site and stream from New Year 2024.

If you want to camp there on the Saturday night, please let us know you’re coming, and arrive on Saturday lunchtime or afternoon to pitch your tent. It’s going to be fun!

On the Sunday, PLEASE remember to sign in BEFORE you head out on the trail, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

After the run, there will be a Hari Raya feast – traditional Malay celebration food. This is free for paid-up member kids, and RM30 for everyone else (adults and guest kids).
To help us get the catering right, please sign up for the meal in advance, by 1st May 2024, using this form.

We will also serve cold drinks, as usual – remember to bring plenty of pocket money.

Run # 500, 21st April 2024 @ Ulu Rening

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin 2 Comments

This is our 500th run, as well as the occasion for our Easter Egg hunt, so expect some serious celebrations!

The KL Junior Hash has been running since the early 1980’s, so this is certainly a momentous occasion, and we encourage everyone (kids and adults) to express their inner 80’s child – clothes, hairstyle, music, etc.

It’s also our first run after Hari Raya, but our Raya celebration and feast will be at the next run, on 5th May.

Why is it on the 21st (so late!) ? Because we want everyone to be back from the Hari Raya week, so as many members as possible can celebrate our 500th run.

Run-site: Dusun Ayah Heritage camp-site at Ulu Rening, in the Genting Valley and a few km past Batang Kali.
Travel Time: probably a little over an hour for most of us
Date: Sunday 21st April, 2024
Hares: Iris and Zu Renshaw
Co-Hares: Mirthe and Wilma Koh
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Admin / Logistics

This run-site is at a private camp-site, so please have RM5 ready to pay for parking.

You can also rent a tube for playing in the river, for RM10 – please make sure your kids know that you need to pay before borrowing them.

If you would like to camp there (RM60 per pitch per night), please contact the site directly – you can WhatsApp to Effa on 019 926 6461. You can see more details at fb.com/effaryanstore.

If you want to stay overnight but don’t fancy camping, there are other chalets, home-stays and eco-resorts in the Ulu Rening area . They vary from cheap & simple chalets to posh chalets (e.g. Huda’s Haven), to secluded mansions that sleep 10 and have private swimming pools.

We will also have a special souvenir t-shirt for our 500th run, free for members and available for guests and parents to purchase.

There is no need to pre-register – just turn up and find our registration desk.

Event Details

As usual, there will be two trails – long and short.

There will be an EASTER EGG HUNT – some items will be hidden on the trail, and others around the run-site. We will explain the details before the run starts.

After the run, there will be hotdogs and cold drinks, so it’s going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family – remember to bring some pocket money and a change of clothes.

Directions

The run-site coordinates are approximately 3.4903,101.693637

When you arrive, please park considerately and pay the parking fee (RM5) to the camp-site reception before finding the Junior Hash registration desk.

The Waze link below should take you right to the run-site, but Google Maps doesn’t seem to know the little roads:

Run # 499, 3rd March 2024 @ 2K Hotspring Campsite

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

The Great Tiger Hunt

Run-site: 2K Hotsprings Campsite at Ulu Yam Baharu
Travel Time: allow 60 – 80 minutes, depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 3rd March, 2024
Hares: Brown family (Aenea and Bigfoot)
Co-Hares: Iskandar-Hill family (Max, Remy, etc.)
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Exactly six months after the Browns first set a run here, we’re back again to enjoy the hot springs – and the jungle trails too, of course!
This is a commercial camp-site (with hot springs!!! did we mention the hot springs??), and we have negotiated a payment of RM10 per car, so please bring a little extra cash.

Check out the camp-site web-site for campsite attractions & facilities – including 3 hotspring-fed swimming pools!

If you have a tent (or know how to get to Decathlon) and would like to camp on the Saturday night, please contact the site owner directly on +60 19 338 4008.

Will there be tigers? I don’t know – you’ll have to ask the hares, and look very carefully when you’re out in the forest.

Directions:

You can take your preferred route towards Ulu Yam Baru (close to Batang Kali), which is approximately 35Km (about an hour) from KL or PJ, depending on your start location.

The route has a few turns through the Kampung so please use Waze or Google Maps – just type in ‘2K Hotspring campsite’ to either App, and it will take you directly to the campsite.

The last part is a good quality single track road, so normal clearance cars will have no problems.
There are 2K campsite signs when you’re close.

There is plenty of parking at the campsite but please be mindful of non-hash campers who may also be using the campsite.

These links should take you to the campsite:

Ramadan starts the following weekend (10th March), and our April run will be delayed to 21st April, as it’s our 500th run and we want all members to be able to celebrate it!

Run # 498, 4th February 2024 @ KKB

January 9, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

This will be our Chinese New Year run, so please wear something (or everything) red, and prepare for some CNY celebrations!

There will be a catered CNY meal, so we must all register in advance, using this form.

Run-site: Water Rafting Kuala Kubu Bahru (near KKB)
Travel Time: about 70-80 minutes
Date: Sunday 4th February, 2024
Hares: the Lai family
Co-Hares:
Pre-registration (for food): by midday on Friday 2nd February
On-site registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm
Food and CNY celebration: after the run

This site is on the Selangor river, just below the KKB Dam – about 3km upstream from the Cherandong Waterfalls site that we’ve had a lot of fun at.

There will be a CNY meal after the run – please register in advance to sign up for the meal, so we have exact numbers for catering.
The menu includes fried chicken, sweet and sour fish, tofu and vegetables, served with rice, and costs RM30 per person (free for paid-up members). For guest (non-member) kids, the RM30 includes the meal and the run fee.

On arrival, PLEASE remember to sign in BEFORE the run, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost or washed downstream to see the fireflies at Kuala Selangor.

If you have camping table/chairs, they could be useful.

The site is next to a river, of course! The flow can vary, depending on how much water they’re letting out of the dam, so please check it before your kids go for a paddle.

If you like white water rafting, you can try booking that for the morning, before the Junior Hash run. There are also a couple of other rafting operators on the same stretch of river. You can read a description of rafting the Selangor river here.

Directions

To reach this site, you need to drive through KKB town, on state highway 55, and keep straight towards the dam. Then watch out for a small left turn.

Both Waze and Google Maps know this location as “Water Rafting Kuala Kubu Bahru by PROJEK OUTDOOR”, and these links should take you straight to the run-site:
