Run # 471 – 7th November @ Batang Kali estate

November 3, 2021 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Welcome back, Happy Halloween and Happy Deepavali!

Run-site: Batang Kali estate, between Ulu Yam Baru and Batang Kali
Travel Time: allow 70 to 80 minutes, depending on starting point
Date: Sunday 7th November, 2021
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm
Hares: French family (Lucas, Marcus and Oscar)
Co-Hares: Renshaw family (Iris and Zulaika)

Hot dogs and drinks will be on sale after the run.

Please remember to register BEFORE the run, in a socially distanced manner and masked up (Halloween style if you like), at our registration desk.
Based on the current SOPs, you must also scan our MySejahtera QR code and get your temperature checked, and adults must have had a vaccination.

Members: just mark the registration sheet.
Who’s a Member? Anyone who was a fully paid-up member last year is still a member, up to August 2022 !

Guests: fill in kids’ details (including a phone number and/or car reg) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.
Who’s a Guest? Any kid who isn’t a member 🙂

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we do not send out a search party.

Location
As with most run-sites, it’s easy to get there if you let Waze or Google Maps help you navigate – just click one of the icons below or follow the directions further down:

The dirt road starts here, just after you turn off the main road:

The run-site is further in – you can use this Waze link, but if you put the same coordinates into Google Maps it will take you the wrong way, past an orchid farm.

To make sure you don’t get lost, it’s also a good idea to read the directions below:

Directions
• Get to Ulu Yam Baru any way
The B23 Jalan Hulu Yam Bharu-Batu Caves road is a good way from most starting points, but you can also go through Serendah (use the Rawang or Sungei Buaya exit from the N-S highway) and Antara Gapi
• Zero your tripmeter at the bridge over Sungei Liam, just before you enter Ulu Yam Baru town.
• At the t-junction immediately after the bridge, turn LEFT towards town.
• At 0.9km, in the middle of town, turn RIGHT onto the B113 towards Genting Highlands.
• Pass the Balai Polis on your left.
• At about 2.1km the road bends sharply to the left.
TURN RIGHT HERE AT THE SIGN ‘LADANG BATANG KALI’ (small tarmac road)
• Then take the first right into the estate (earth track) and continue about 0.7km to the run-site

Some parts are a bit tricky for low-clearance sports cars, so we suggest you leave the Ferrari at home and bring the Perodua instead.

The runsite has plenty of parking near a small stream – or maybe a big stream after all the rain.

Please watch out for small kids when you drive in and reverse into a parking space!

Note: It’s always a good idea to bring insect repellant, for mozzies, etc.

And it’s always essential to bring a change of clothes, plus a water bottle to keep the kids hydrated on the trail.

On On!

Run # 471 CANCELED10th January @ Bukit Tinggi / Janda Baik

January 5, 2021 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

This run has been canceled owing to the covid-19 crisis. We were really looking forward to hashing in the new year, but decided it is best to hedge on the side of caution. Watch this space to see when our next hash is.

Happy New Year hashers! We are super chuffed to begin hashing again! Add hand sanitizers and masks to your hash gear and join us in the cool climes of Bukit Tinggi. We are easing back into hashing with a slightly uphill trail that our regulars might consider easy. There is no water body this time, given the rains.

Run-site: Bukit Tinggi / Janda Baik (after SMK Bukit Tinggi)
Travel Time: 70 to 80 minutes, depending on starting point
Date: Sunday 10th January, 2021
Registration: 1:00 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Hot dogs and drinks will be on sale after the run. As usual, we only serve the best premium sausages from Victoria Crest (halal) so don’t forget to bring small change.

Please remember to register BEFORE the run, in a socially distanced manner, masked-up at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we do not send out a search party.

Directions:
As with most run-sites, it’s easy to get there if you let Waze or Google Maps help you navigate – just click on the icon below or follow the directions that follow:

icon-googlemap

icon-waze

Directions:
– Leave KL by way of Karak Highway.
– After the tunnel/terowong, set the trip meter to zero and carry on. Pass McDonald’s on your right.
– After approximately 4.5km, turn lft and then right, and right.
– Go through the underpass and you’ll reach the T-junction shortly after. You are now in Bukit Tinggi.
– Turn left and stay on this barely used, very long and winding road until you see SMK Bukit Tinggi, on your right.
– Drive on slightly further. A hash sign HHH on the right will appear. Turn right and park.

Run # 470, 4th October @ Ulu Rening

September 28, 2020 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

We don’t often repeat the run sites this soon but we are back with the old and familiar again! If you came by in August, you will remember the site right by a cool stream and a little suspension bridge. Some of us brought our fur kids along and they too had a blast.

Run-site: Ulu Rening, near Huda’s Haven resort (in the Genting Valley, near Hulu Yam / Batang Kali)
Travel Time: 70 to 80 minutes, depending on starting point
Date: Sunday 4th October, 2020
Hares: Lai family
Co-hares: French family
Registration: 1:00 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

This month we are starting HOT DOGS again!!!
As usual, we buy the best premium sausages from Victoria Crest (halal), so your taste buds and stomachs are guaranteed a good time.
So there’s no need to bring your own picnics (but you still can if you want).

And as always, we will have plenty of drinks for the young and the old, so don’t forget to bring some change.
Also, for the members who didn’t renew your membership last month, don’t forget RM100 per kid, and try to come early as renewal takes a minute longer than normal registration.

PLEASE remember to register BEFORE the run, in a socially distanced manner, at our registration desk. Members just mark the registration sheet, and guests must fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

EVERYONE (members and guests) must also sign out AFTER the run, so we know that nobody is lost.

Directions:
As with most run-sites, it’s easy to get there if you let Waze or Google Maps help you navigate – just click on the icon below or look up “Huda’s Haven” on Waze.
But don’t drive all the way to Huda’s Haven – follow the directions below (or our KLJHHH bunny signs) when you get close.

icon-googlemap

icon-waze

Once you reach the T-junction in Ulu Rening village, turn left and follow brown signs towards “Huda’s Haven” and then green signs towards ‘Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kg Hulu Rening Selangor’, until you see our usual KLJHHH bunny signs.
The run site is before a suspension footbridge across the river.
Once you get within around 200m of the footbridge, you need to look for parking beside the track, as there isn’t any big car park at the end.
Please stay on open/public land and don’t block any entrances.

From BATU CAVES:
– Take the B57 Hulu Yam Baharu road.
– Drive pass the Hulu Yam dam and reservoir.
– At Hulu Yam town turn right towards Genting Highlands on B113 and set trip meter to zero.
– 4.4 km Traffic lights, Shell station on Left, turn RIGHT onto B114.
– 5.9 km Turn LEFT (signposted Air Panas Hulu Tamu).
– 10.7 km (T-junction in village) Turn LEFT
– 10.9 km Turn RIGHT
– 11.3 km Turn LEFT
– 11.4 km Turn RIGHT and look for space to park
– 11.6 km Run site

From RAWANG
– Continue north on Highway 1 ( Old Ipoh Road ) through Serendah to Batang Kali.
– At traffic light in Batang Kali turn RIGHT onto B113, and reset your trip-meter.
– 1.9 km At traffic lights (Shell station on right) turn LEFT onto B114.
– 3.4 km Turn LEFT (signposted Air Panas Hulu Tamu).
– 8.2 km (T-junction in village) Turn LEFT
– 8.4 km Turn RIGHT
– 8.8 km Turn LEFT
– 8.9 km Turn RIGHT and look for space to park
– 9.1 km Run site

Run #469, 6th September 2020 @ Ulu Tamu

September 1, 2020 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: Ulu Tamu
Travel Time: a little over an hour depending on where you start from
Date: Sunday 6th September
Registration: 1:00 pm onwards, or come earlier for a picnic
Run starts: 2:00 pm
Hares: Italians, Brits and Iranians

This is our AGM run!!!
That’s the start of a new membership year, and also the start of a new committee year. So please bring your pocket money to renew your membership, and also think about joining the committee.

The run-site is next to a small river (or large stream?) in the Ulu Tamu area, beyond Batang Kali and not far past the hot springs.

Like everything else at the moment (and until the end of the year, if not longer), we have an SOP to follow, so:
– please stay at home if you have a fever or other symptoms
– when registering, please wear face-masks, present foreheads for temperature measurement, wave elbows instead of shaking hands, and bring a phone to scan our QR code (MySejahtera)
– please remember social distancing – even in the wide open spaces and fresh air, there are still rules

We will be serving drinks as usual, but recommend that you bring your own snacks/picnics.

If you want to make a mini-holiday of it, there are a number of eco-resorts very close by, with prices from RM60 for a chalet at Kem Rimba Tamu (where we ran from in January – call Sunan at 013 388 0713 and say Cesare from the Junior Hash sent you) to a lot more money for glamping at Dusun Bonda, both of which have accommodation overlooking the river.

Directions:
This run site is near the end of the road that goes past the Ulu Tamu hot springs.

Click on one of these icons to head to the run site:

icon-googlemap

icon-waze

Or follow these directions:
– Exit KLCC and take Jln Kuching/Route 1 and continue for 21km
– Keep right to continue on Rawang bypass for 7.5 km (still on Route 1)
– Keep right at the fork to continue North on Route 1 for 15 km
– Turn right at the traffic lights by Batang Kali police station, onto the B113 (Jalan Batang Kali – Hulu Yam Baru)
– After 1.9 km, turn left on the B114 (Jalan Ulu Kai) towards Ulu Tamu / Ulu Rening
– After 1.4 km, keep left, still on the B114
– After 2.1 km, turn right, towards Ulu Tamu hot springs
– Continue for nearly 4 km, until you reach the run-site beside the road

There are many alternative routes, including a number of different junctions off the N-S highway, but all will go past the traffic lights near the Batang Kali police station.
And all will end up following either blue or pink paper for a fun jungle trail!
