We used to maintain a ‘hareline’ showing who is due to set future runs.
Now we show the hares on our future run list, at least for the next few runs:
https://www.kljhhh.org/runs/
You can also see old runs on the same page – at the bottom, you can jump back through pages of older runs, going back to June 2015, which is great for getting ideas for future runs.
We are always looking for volunteers to either be the hare (choosing a site, planning the trails, and setting them on the day) or a co-hare (assisting the hare – maybe on the whole process, or maybe just helping to set the trails on the day). Volunteering as a co-hare is an easy way to learn how it all works, to prepare for being the hare yourself. But co-hares aren’t always less experienced – sometimes a hare gets a more experienced co-hare to help them.
If you’ve been hashing for a while, you can approach the committee to ask about helping as a hare or co-hare, or you can simply approach the hare for a future month and ask if you can help.
And if you’ve been hashing with us for a long time, someone on the committee will probably approach you, to ask when you’re available to set a run!
It can be good to take your kids along on a recce, but not all kids enjoy it – some are happier when there are more hashers around (a recce with two families and a picnic is fun), and some like to be on a clear trail more than exploring. We strongly recommend that there should always be two adults on any recce, as jungle exploration has risks – never recce in the jungle on your own!
We always suggest taking your kids along to help lay the paper on the day – it gives them a sense of achievement, and we thank them at the circle after the run. Plus the hares get a free hot dog and soft drink!
