Junior Hasher members get rewards and prizes for completing runs and being great. Every 12 runs a member completes, they get an award, with the first given on the day they complete their 12th run. We aim to give them a sense of pride in their achievements.
After each run, our OnSec takes the registration forms home, and updates our database to record which members did the run. So we have a very reliable record of how many runs each member has completed. Our sign-in sheet shows the number of runs and the date of the last run, so everyone can see how they’re doing (and if they might have forgotten to sign in last month!).
In 2025, we have many members who will get awards for 12 runs or 24 runs, three (Matteo, Eva and Ellinor) who will reach 36 runs, and a few will get larger awards: one (Zu) for 48 runs, two (Iris and Lucas) for 84 runs, and one (Marcus) is already due an award for 96 runs!
Until 2023, we used to give engraved pewter awards, which looked very nice but usually ended up sitting in cupboards, so now we prefer to give useful gifts – for the 12-run award, we usually give a camping mug or a water bottle. For larger numbers of runs, we take input from the member about what they would find useful, as long as it’s within our budget.
Remember that we only count runs for members – this is one of the main benefits of joining – so any runs you complete as a guest are not recorded. We take the guest registration form back, but only to record the number of guests who attended.
