Run # 514, 1st June @ Ulu Rening

December 2, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

It’s a long weekend, so we can have a relaxed Sunday hash, and then recover on the Monday πŸ™‚

Run-site: Dusun Ayah Heritage camp-site at Ulu Rening, in the Genting Valley and a few km past Batang Kali
Travel Time:
Date: Sunday 1st June, 2025
Hares: Milliner family – Amelia & Isaac
Co-Hares: TBD
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

This is one of our favourite run-sites, with a spacious lawn next to a calm little river to cool down in. It’s a private camp-site, so please have RM5 ready to pay for parking.

You can also rent a tube for playing in the river, for RM10 – please make sure your kids know that you need to pay before borrowing them.

If you would like to camp there (quite cheap), please contact the site directly – you can WhatsApp to Effa on 019 926 6461. You can see more details at fb.com/effaryanstore.

If you want to stay overnight but don’t fancy camping, there are other chalets, home-stays and eco-resorts in the Ulu Rening area . They vary from cheap & simple chalets to posh chalets (e.g. Huda’s Haven), to secluded mansions that sleep 10 and have private swimming pools.

Please sign in when you arrive:

  • Members please remember to mark the registration sheet.
  • Guests fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

and PLEASE remember to sign out when you get back from the trail, so we know that nobody is lost. It’s very tempting to jump straight into the stream when you get back, and sit there for three hours, but please sign out first!

As usual, we will have hot-dogs after the run, and drinks for the young and the old, so don’t forget to bring some change.

Run # 513, 4th May – Easter @ Batang Kali Estate

December 2, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

This will be our Easter run, with an Easter Egg Hunt and plenty of chocolate!

Run-site: Batang Kali Estate (Ladang Batang Kali)
Travel Time: about an hour, or a little more
Date: Sunday 4th May, 2025
Hares: Renshaw family
Co-hares: French family
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

This is always a reliable run-site – nice and secluded and shady, with little streams and plenty of forest trails nearby.

Please sign in when you arrive:

  • Members please remember to mark the registration sheet.
  • Guests (all welcome – just turn up!) fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

and PLEASE remember to sign out when you get back from the trail, so we know that nobody is lost. It’s very tempting to jump straight into the stream when you get back, and sit there for three hours, but please sign out first!

There will be a long trail, exactly 4km, and a slightly shorter trail.

On the trail, there will be some pretend (paper) Easter eggs hidden, for kids (not adults!) to find, and then swap for real chocolate when you get back to the run-site. Don’t worry – there’s plenty of chocolate for everyone!

As usual, we will have hot-dogs after the run, and drinks for the young and the old, so don’t forget to bring some cash.

Directions

The dirt road starts here, just after you turn off the main road:

icon-googlemap

icon-waze

You can also ask Waze or Google Maps for “Jalan Ladang Ligamas”

The run-site is further in – you need to turn right onto an earth/gravel road and continue straight for a bit more than 1km, until you see some hashmobiles.
The plantation workers were levelling some bumpy/muddy bits last Saturday, so it should be good for this Sunday.

This Waze link should take you almost all the way to the run-site (just continue straight a little bit more), but if you put the same coordinates into Google Maps it will take you the wrong way, past an orchid farm.

To make sure you don’t get lost, it’s also a good idea to read the directions below:

Detailed Driving Directions
β€’ Get to Ulu Yam Baru any way
The B23 Jalan Hulu Yam Baru-Batu Caves road is a good way from most starting points, but you can also go through Serendah (use the Rawang or Sungei Buaya exit from the N-S highway) and Antara Gapi
β€’ Zero your tripmeter at the bridge over Sungei Liam, just before you enter Ulu Yam Baru town.
β€’ At the t-junction immediately after the bridge, turn LEFT towards town.
β€’ At 0.9km, in the middle of town, turn RIGHT onto the B113 towards Genting Highlands.
β€’ Pass the Balai Polis on your left.
β€’ At about 2.1km the road bends sharply to the left.
TURN RIGHT HERE AT THE SIGN β€˜LADANG BATANG KALI’ (small tarmac road)
β€’ Then take the first right, before the small estate manager’s house, into the estate (earth track) and continue about 1.3 kilometres to the run-site – this is about 300 metres past the run-site we’ve used before.

The track is OK, but some parts are a bit tricky for low-clearance sports cars, so we suggest you leave the Ferrari at home and bring the Perodua instead.

The runsite has plenty of parking near a small stream.

Run # 512, 6th April @ Cherandong Waterfalls

December 2, 2024 by hashadmin 2 Comments

Run-site: Cherandong Waterfalls, near KKB
Travel Time: at least an hour from KL/PJ – consider stopping for lunch on the way
Date: Sunday 6th April, 2025
Hares: Marthe and Wilma (Koh family)
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

This is one of our favourite swimming spots, and the Koh family always set their runs here – their last one was exactly six months ago.

It’s at a campsite right next to a fun stretch of river, which can flow quite fast in the middle, although the stream had been re-shaped last time we were here, so who knows what to expect?

Please sign in when you arrive:

  • Members please remember to mark the registration sheet.
  • Guests fill in kids’ details (plus a phone number) on the guest sheet, and pay the guest fees of RM10 per kid.

and PLEASE remember to sign out when you get back from the trail, so we know that nobody is lost. It’s very tempting to jump straight into the stream when you get back, and sit there for three hours, but please sign out first!

As usual, we will have hot-dogs after the run, and drinks for the young and the old, so don’t forget to bring some change.

Use Waze or Google Maps to go to “Cherandong Waterfall Trailhead” – this is on tarmac, and is on Jalan Kampung Buluh Telur, 44000, Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor.
This is on the right (East) side of the river – make sure that Waze doesn’t take you to the closest road on the other side of the river!
Then follow our KLJHHH bunny signs (hopefully!) to take the trail on the left, which stays close to the Selangor river for 1 or 2 km further to our run-site, where there is plenty of parking. This trail is a little bumpy in parts, but suitable for normal cars – just take it slowly and carefully, and you’ll have no problem.

These links take you to the end of the tarmac road, about 10 minutes before the run-site:

icon-waze

More detailed directions:
Tell your navigator to guide you towards Kuala Kubu Baru (or use the link above)
β€’ At the crossroads on the old Ipoh road by the Rasa Chinese Cemetary, set your tripmeter to zero
β€’ After almost 1km further (towards KKB), turn RIGHT to Ampang Pecah
β€’ Continue on Jalan Ampang Pecah for 5.5km
β€’ When your tripmeter reads about 6.5km, just before a bridge, turn RIGHT
β€’ You should see the DAM cafe and DAM fishing pond on your right
β€’ Drive another 2.3km
β€’ When your tripmeter reads about 8.8km, you’ll see a parking area on your LEFT. Turn in, and then follow the driving track down to the LEFT, which soon turns right to run alongside the river
β€’ Follow the hash signs to the run-site, at which point your trip-meter should read something close to 10km

Run # 511, 2nd March @ 2K Hotspring Campsite

December 2, 2024 by hashadmin Leave a Comment

Run-site: 2K Hotspring Campsite, near Ulu Yam / Batang Kali
Travel Time: a little over an hour
Date: Sunday 2nd March, 2025
Hares: Brown family (helped by Paddington Bear?)
Registration: 1:20 onwards
Run Starts at: 2:00 pm

Aenea Brown and her dad love settings runs at the 2K Hotspring Campsite, and we love running there – and we particularly love soaking in the pools afterwards!

It’s a very pleasant campsite, and some junior hashers are camping (with BBQ, etc.) on the Saturday night.
If you have a tent and fancy joining them, please book directly with the friendly Mr Chan – follow the link above for contact details, or just WhatsApp him on +60 19 338 4008.

For those not camping, there is a fee of RM10 per car – please find Mr Chan and pay him (with exact change if possible) after you arrive.
This fee covers parking and use of the facilities for the afternoon – very good value, because KLJHHH is also subsidising it.

Please treat the camp-site nicely – tent pegs are fine, but no digging holes or lighting fires without permission.

The hares tell us that there will be a treasure hunt (woohoo!) in the Green Cabbage Patch, as an early celebration for St Patrick’s Day – feel free to wear green.

Directions

These links should take you to the campsite:
icon-googlemap

icon-waze

Start by taking your preferred route towards Ulu Yam Baru or Batang Kali, which is approximately 35Km (about an hour) from KL or PJ, depending on your start location.

The route has a few turns through the Kampung so please use Waze or Google Maps – just type in ‘2K Hotspring campsite’ to either App, and it will take you directly to the campsite.

The last part is a good quality single track road, so normal clearance cars will have no problems.
There are 2K campsite signs when you’re close.

There is plenty of parking at the campsite but please be mindful of non-hash campers who may also be using the campsite.
